* Add a Veterans Cemetery in the Upper Peninsula

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Veterans Cemetery in the Upper Peninsula: Michigan veterans who live in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) do not have reasonable access to a state or federal veterans cemetery. The two active national USDVA Veterans Cemeteries are in Augusta and Holly. It is 218 miles between the Mackinac Bridge and Holly.

Please support Michigan House Bills 5843 and 5844, which would advance the establishment of a veterans cemetery in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

For those of us who have served, the opportunity to be laid to rest near our homes, families, and communities carries deep personal meaning. At present, veterans in the Upper Peninsula and their loved ones must travel significant distances to access these final honors, placing an unnecessary burden on families during times of loss.

Creating a veterans cemetery in the Upper Peninsula would ensure that those who served our nation are honored with the dignity, respect, and accessibility they deserve. It would also recognize and reflect the proud and longstanding tradition of military service throughout the Upper Peninsula and the State of Michigan.

Please advocate for Michigan House Bills # 5843 and 5844 inclusion in the state budget.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and continued service to the people of Michigan.

* = This priority requires both State and Federal action.
